This race was to raise funds for the Michael Lynch Memorial Foundation. The Michael Lynch
Memorial Foundation is a scholarship program. Its purpose is to provide grants to enable children of firefighters and
other victims of the September 11 World trade Center attacks and other fires and disasters to afford higher education. Michael
Lynch was lost along with 342 other firefighters at The World Trade Center. For more information you can visit the Memorial
Foundation website at http://www.MLynch.Org.
Before the race, a prayer was said, and the National Anthem was sang by a child who's father was a
fire fighter who also lost his life in the line of duty. The race course started inside TMS, went all the way around
the outside of the track, and ended in TMS. The course had a couple of small hills, but basically flat.
After the race, many policemen and firefighters were honored. The family of Michael Lynch was
presented with a comfort quilt, and plaques. A group of New York fire fighters made the trip to run the race, and honor
Michael Lynch. It was a very moving event.
After the race and awards ceremony, door prizes were given out. I was one of two lucky individuals
who won a Richard Petty Driving Experience. To learn more about this, you can visit http://www.1800bepetty.com/. In short, I got to ride in the passenger's seat of a stock car, three laps around Texas Motor
Speedway, at 165 miles an hour.
I ran the 5K in 19:30, winning 1st for my age group, and 3rd female overall. It was a very full
day, and one that I won't soon forget.
